Went for this Guan1 Di4 Ye2's "birthday dinner" just now.
Actually quite boring ah, didn't know anyone, and papa was like busy entertaining other people, so me and Joe had to entertain ourselves, while watching weird towkays bid for weird stuff.
Let's not talk about those auspicious ornaments which were at least a few hundred bucks each.
Towards the end there were even wackier auctions.
Packets of rice that cost $250 starting bid each. Then 3 $50 notes went for like a few k.
Pa was only involved in one. This one.
Cannot see lah, but it's like, the most valuable item of the night, think is Guan Gong's altar or something. Pa and his towkay friends bidded for it and after many rounds of insane bidding, ended up getting it for like, $9888.
So each person paid like close to $2000 for it.
Wah kao I dun understand what they're thinking lah. Today I was still delirious over the fact that I would have earned at least $2000 from current job in total, and here pa is spending the same amount of money on something we're not even gonna bring home.
Last year they also bidded for something like that for 10k plus.
Then left it in the temple.
Oh well maybe it brought us luck ba.
